MPD Investigating Pennsylvania Avenue and 8th Street Fatal Crash

  

The Metropolitan Police Department's (MPD) Major Crash Investigations Unit is investigating a fatal crash involving two e-scooters that occurred in Southeast.

 

On Friday, October 9, 2026, at approximately 6:47 p.m., First District officers responded to the intersection of 8th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, Southeast, for a report of a crash involving two electric scooters.

The operators, an adult male and an adult female, collided in the intersection. DC Fire and EMS responded and transported both individuals to a local hospital for treatment. The male operator was unconscious and not breathing at the scene. Despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. The female operator has since been released from the hospital. 

 The decedent has been identified as 50-year-old Talib Shakir, of Northwest, DC. This crash remains an ongoing investigation.
